Book Week at Britannica
Book Week 2017 at Britannica has been a huge success! It was a week filled with activities and fun as pupils, teachers and parents throughout Britannica celebrated their love of books!
Classes began with teachers talking about and reading their favourite books. Year 4 pupils were treated to readings by teachers across the school and read out loud in front of their friends. Year 10 pupils visited Year 2 classes and read stories!
Key Stage 3 pupils explored literature from around the globe. Workshops saw pupils explore poetry about different parts of the world and pupils in years 9 – 11 explored the science behind some of our most favourite Sci-Fi novels!
Pupils in Years 1 – 3 also had the pleasure of listening to a talk from the published wildlife author, Jan Latta. Everyone loved hearing all about all the animals she’d seen and photographed.
Book Week continued with even more fun as Years 5 and 6 heard teachers from other parts of the school read. Pupils in Key Stage 1 were treated to a performance of the fable, ‘The Mouse and the Lion’ by Year 9 pupils, which everyone enjoyed! Later in the day, Years 4 and 5 were treated to a special Drama lesson. Britannica’s Nursery children also had a special visit from teachers and loved hearing their stories.
On day three, the author Rob Lloyd Jones visited Britannica and worked with pupils from Year 4 to Year 12. Rob spoke about his books and about why he became a writer. Throughout the rest of the day, classes focused upon the writing process. The visit was a huge success and Rob was incredibly impressed with all of Britannica’s students.
Day three also saw the Book Fair open – an incredibly impressive amount of books were on sale, for pupils to look at and buy. Fantastic photography competition entrants were also on display for all to see.
Our final day of Book Week began with the fancy dress parade on the school field. With the sun shining and a selection of splendid costumes on display, pupils, staff and parents all enjoyed seeing the children’s efforts as they’d come to school dressed as favourite book characters.
After the parade, EYFS and Key Stage 1 pupils and parents attended their celebration assembly. Prizes were also awarded to pupils.
Students from Year 2 spoke enthusiastically about their favourite books, Year 1 performed the library song and Reception pupils all performed poems that they’d learnt in class. Everyone was amazed at how confidently the children in EYFS and Key Stage 1 spoke and performed.
The second celebration assembly was for Key Stage 2 and Senior School. Pupils and parents attended and were excited to find out who had won prizes. Parents were invited to stay and visit classrooms and the Book Fair. Everyone could really see the amazing work that has gone into some of the classrooms for the decorating competition.
The week finished with pupils celebrating Book Week with their classes and form teachers, ready for a very deserved rest over the weekend!
Britannica would like to thank everyone involved for making Book Week a huge success!
Happy Book Week!
