Teachers

All Britannica teachers are native English speakers.

Seeking well qualified and skilled teachers is of course a priority for any good international school, good teachers can transform a school, direct the ethos and culture and will certainly heavily influence the success of their students. Britannica International School Shanghai has a recruitment policy to only employ qualified teaching staff with British or equivalent professional teaching qualifications. All Britannica teachers are native English speakers. The Teachers are supported by a highly qualified and experienced Principal and a large team of Teacher Assistants and Administrative Staff. All staff employed in the school are background checked and come with excellent references from previous employers.

The school benefits from a management team with excellent experience in delivering the best of British education both in the UK and abroad. The Orbital Education International Education Development Officers monitor the quality of education in all Orbital Education Schools and regularly carry out school inspections. The school has membership of a number of accreditation bodies that similarly monitor closely the quality of education in the school against rigorous international and British educational standards.

There is no doubt that there are certainly a large number of teachers in the international marketplace and most good international schools will be inundated with applicants when advertising for posts, especially in an attractive expatriate city such as Shanghai.  Making the right choice about which staff to bring into the school is one of the Principal’s most important decisions. It is not necessarily the most experienced or the best qualified teacher that makes the best classroom practitioner, many other aspects are equally if not more important.

A good school will have a mix of experience, age and gender among its teachers.  Young teachers can bring in fresh new ideas, along with vigour and a ‘can do’ attitude, which can balance the skills of the more experienced teacher who often has a better understanding of the ‘bigger picture’ and can bring their knowledge of best practice to the staffroom.  Both are needed to make an effective staff team.
