Success is at the heart of Britannica International School, Shanghai: success academically, socially and personally. We build close relationships between home, student, parents and teachers to continually tailor your child’s learning experiences.
Our central location means that most students’ journey to school is as easy as possible, leaving them more time to benefit from our wide range of co-curriculum clubs and activities. The small class sizes, give each teacher the time to offer a personalised approach to each child; working with them to understand their areas of interest so that we can support them at the right level.
The close nurturing environment of our school means that all students have the care and support that they need to be effective and happy learners and that good communication between home and school is always maintained.
Our daily routine starts early and often even before the bustle of buses and students have arrived. Early morning can mean the swimming squad practising in the pool or our basketball players in the sports hall receiving some extra coaching ready for their latest tournament. For most students though, the day starts with their arrival on one of our many school buses. Our bus routes having been all tailor made to meet family needs, with pick-ups direct from every child’s apartment or compound.
The English National Curriculum is rigorous and we do expect the best from each child, throughout the day. After a challenging day, students leave the school with an appropriate amount of homework; designed to consolidate their day’s learning so that they are ready to move forward the next day.
Our term times and academic calendars can be viewed below.
'My children have thoroughly enjoyed preparing for and presenting these traditional Chinese art forms. The dragon dance, fan dance, Guanyin dance, and Chinese drums were especially impressive.
Thank you for giving our family the opportunity to feel the excitement of the New Year season and learn more about this rich culture.'
——Lisa, Mother of students in Years 2, 3, 5 and 7
'Our daughter’s form teacher is an outstanding teacher who is constantly encouraging and supportive, while acknowledging the need to push her ability. She is a credit to the school and is such a positive influence on her education - so much so that our daughter has a will to learn, loves going to Britannica and being in her class.
We spent time at the recent Parent-teacher meeting with our daughter’s Mandarin teacher, discussing our desire for her to be equally fluent in English and Chinese given the importance of China and the evolving world status. She was incredibly knowledgeable and aware of our daughter’s current status, providing the advice and encouragement we need to ensure our daughter has the best opportunity to achieve this.
It was an extremely positive and encouraging to spend time talking with Britannica staff at the recent Parent-Teacher meetings, across academic, languages, the arts and sport - all areas our family greatly value. We were extremely impressed with every one of these teachers. Their passion, compassion, consideration and way in which they engaged with us as parents was exemplary and reassured us that our daughter is in the best of hands.'
