Team

BA Ed.

In 2010 I graduated with a BA Ed and QTS in Primary Education from Trinity University, Carmarthen. I specialised in the Foundation Phase and since then I have taught in a number of schools in West and South Wales, before joining the Early Years team at Britannica last year.

BA

After graduating from Early Childhood Education in 1999 I spent the next 20 years Teaching in various international schools in South America, Europe and Asia. I have taught across all stages in EYFS during these years, mostly in Pre Nursery and Nursery. I moved to Shanghai in 2020 and have been a regular volunteer in the EYFS department at Britannica for the last two years.

This year I am thrilled to be teaching Nursery in Britannica. I hope with my vast experiences in teaching in many different cultures and my enthusiasm for an active outdoors lifestyle will create an inclusive, compassionate and eager learning environment.

Growing up I lived, studied and worked in seven different countries. Throughout this time, I learned to speak four different languages. My love of languages led me to pursue a degree in Modern Foreign Languages with Education from King’s College in London.

I am a qualified Early Years Foundation Stage teacher. During the theoretical part of my teacher training, I covered topics such as Child Psychology and focused on the different aspects of children’s development; their emotional, social, physical, cognitive and language development. Having had firsthand experience growing up in a multi-lingual household, I am especially fascinated by children’s ability to acquire language. The first five years are crucial in a child’s life to lay the foundation for their future successes.

My core value as an Early Years teacher is to transfer a love of learning and a positive attitude towards school. My aim is to guide children towards independence by helping them gain social skills, try something new, build resilience and set a strong foundation for literacy and numeracy.

BA Hons., PGCE

In 2008 I graduated with a BA Hons in History with Education Studies from Manchester Metropolitan University before completing my PGCE with QTS in London. I initially taught in an inner-city school in London for two years before moving to the North of England where I worked for a further four years. I joined Britannica in 2016 and now look forward to beginning my sixth academic year. During my time at Britannica I have taught in both EYFS and Primary alongside my role as Cross Phase English Coordinator. I am in the final stages of completing my Masters in Inclusionary Practice where I have specifically researched strategies to support children learning English as an additional language. This year I am very much looking forward to leading our EYFS team here at Britannica.

Born and raised in Scotland, Carla has spent the past five years teaching internationally. She has experience of working in Shanghai having worked at both SHSID and Shanghai Pinghe. Most recently Carla has been a Key Stage 1 teacher at the international school of Nice, France. Carla will join the Key Stage 1 teaching team.

BEd, NPQML, NPQSL

Suzanne started her teaching career in the UK spending six years at an outstanding primary school in Oxford. Her journey in international education started at the British school of Tokyo before joining Britannica in 2016. Many of you will remember Suzanne who taught for six years at Britannica before moving to Wellington College Shanghai and taking on a leadership role within the primary phase. Suzanne returns in August as a Primary year lead and brings a wealth of teaching and primary leadership experience.

BSc, MA, PGCE

David was born and educated in England. He gained valuable knowledge as a teacher in a UK primary school before moving overseas to pursue his passion for teaching. David joined Britannica in 2017 and spent 3 successful years with the school. David left Britannica to join Harrow International and has since gained further experience in a variety of schools. David will return to Britannica and join the Key Stage 2 teaching team.

BA, PGDip

Originally from Roscommon, in the west of Ireland, I began my career in a small school where I taught in a multi-grade setting.

After graduating from Dublin City University with an honours Bachelor Degree in Human Development and Irish Language, I continued my studies of Education in Glasgow, Scotland. Here, I graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Education at Master’s Level.

I moved back to Ireland after my teacher training and began teaching in large schools in Dublin. I have 6 years’ experience working with SEN children and I am an accredited Dyslexia Tutor with the Dyslexia Association of Ireland.

I am looking forward to my 4th year teaching at Britannica as Year 3C class teacher and Maths Cross Phase Co-ordinator.

BSc Hons., PGCE

I graduated as a Teacher in Primary Education in 2014 from the University of Plymouth, UK. I spent the next 4 years teaching all subjects of the UK National Curriculum at a primary school in the south of England. In 2018, I moved to China where I taught the Cambridge Curriculum to Grade 5 children at a newly established Bilingual School in Ningbo. Learning about a different culture alongside teaching internationally was a great experience. Having now moved to Shanghai, I am very happy to be part of Britannica International school. This is clearly a school that values every individual child and nurtures them to achieve their potential. I am very much looking forward to supporting school’s vision and joining this fantastic team of educators.

Roland has been teaching internationally for 10 years. Roland currently works at Nord Anglia, Shanghai and has previously held various leadership positions including Head of English and Year Lead. Roland has taught across all the Primary year groups, however has a passion for the extended Mathematics curriculum. Roland will join the Key Stage 2 team.

BA, PGCE

Roma is a qualified Primary teacher with a unique blend of professional teaching experience. Roma has worked in Shanghai at SHSID, in a UK Primary school and more recently in the special educational needs sector. With undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications from Liverpool and Nottingham, Roma brings a strong educational background with her. Roma will join the Key Stage 2 team.

I am a Primary specialist with degrees from Manchester University, Nottingham University and the University of Buckingham.

I am experienced in teaching all subjects across the KS1 and KS2 curriculum, providing students with a safe and inclusive environment. Instilling a growth mindset through encouragement, engagement and challenges, allowing all students to believe in their own ability and thrive at anything they choose.

Having worked across Europe and Asia, working at Britannica feels like a community that everyone is a part of. I am extremely happy working alongside fellow professionals who put the students first and strive for excellence.

I graduated from the University of Winchester in 2006 with a BA (hons) in Primary Education with QTS and English specialism. This is now my 16^th year of teaching having taught both in England and Internationally. Excitingly this is my 9^thyear at Britannica and I continue to enjoy being a part of the hard working and driven team of teachers where we inspire and enthuse children every single day. If you were to step into my classroom you will find a vibrant and interactive environment where children are provided with the necessary tools and guidance to become lifelong learners. I pride myself on creating a safe and secure place for all children to learn and develop with happy, smiling and confident attitudes.

In my spare time I continue to enjoy spending time with friends and family, exploring new places, as well as being an avid Formula 1 fan and an enthusiastic book worm!

I am looking forward to a wonderful 9^th year at Britannica as Year 5 Lead and Year 5B class teacher.
