On Tuesday Britannica EYFS welcomed back all year groups from Pre-Nursery to Reception. There were huge smiles from everyone, children, staff and parents as all the children maturely restarted back at school. With the new health screening in place and slight changes to routines, it has been wonderful to see all our young learners confidently return. The whole EYFS team are very proud of all the children.

Once in the classroom, there has been nonstop active, engaging learning. Please see below what each year group has been up to:

Pre-Nursery
Our youngest learners have enthusiastically thrown themselves back into their class routines and learning. Each one of them has enjoyed being back and seeing their friends. It has been a delight to hear them remember each other’s names and watch them invite each other to join in with their play. In our learning, Pre-Nursery children have enjoyed exploring clocks as we looked at the rhyme ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’. We have made the ticking sound as the hands go around the clock, used our arms to be a clock and even made clocks out of paper plates. Along with this, we have been using the language of ‘up’ and ‘down’ as that cheeky mouse keeps running up and down the clock.

Nursery
Where would you like to go on holiday? This is what Nursery have been thinking about this week. They joined Peppa Pig as she went to the Jungle, Mountain and Desert, identifying different features of each holiday. I wonder if Peppa liked a hot or cold holiday best?

In Mathematics Nursery have been exploring the concept of weight through lots of play exploration. I bet if you asked them, they would be able to say if something is heavy or light.

Reception
Reception resumed school and it was as if they had never been away! It was great to see the huge smiles on the faces of the children and also the staff! We have started this term with a brand new topic, ‘Under the Sea’. We have been learning all about why we need water and how it gets to our taps.

We have been reviewing our sounds and focused on the tricky words 'he', 'she' and 'me' using the words in lots of different sentences.

In Maths, we honed our estimation skills, estimating everything from teachers to children and chairs. We also had fun estimating how many star jumps and rolls we could do in 10 seconds.

It has been a great first week back and the children should be very proud of how they have conducted themselves! Well done!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
