Sports Day in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is much more than a fun outdoor event—it plays a vital role in supporting children’s overall development. At this early stage, physical activity is essential for building fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, balancing, and coordination, which form the foundation for a healthy and active lifestyle.

Sports Day also supports children’s personal, social, and emotional development. Through group activities and team games, children learn important life skills such as taking turns, sharing, cooperating with others, and developing resilience. It provides opportunities for children to experience both success and challenge in a supportive and encouraging environment. Celebrating effort rather than just achievement helps to build confidence and self-esteem, ensuring every child feels proud of their participation.

We are delighted to share the highlights of our recent EYFS Sports Day, which was a truly joyful and energetic event for all involved.

Our youngest learners had a fantastic time taking part in a variety of exciting activities designed to develop their physical skills, teamwork, and confidence. From balancing races and obstacle courses to beanbag throws and running events, every child approached each challenge with enthusiasm and determination.

It was wonderful to see the children demonstrating key EYFS values such as resilience, cooperation, and perseverance. They cheered each other on, celebrated successes, and most importantly, had lots of fun along the way.

We were especially proud of how the children showed excellent listening skills and followed instructions so well throughout the day. Their positive attitudes and big smiles made the event a huge success.

A big thank you to all staff for organising such a memorable day, and to families for your continued support. Events like these are a great opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles and build confidence in a supportive environment, while also strengthening the connection between school and home.

Reception have had a very busy week! They all had a fantastic time during our EYFS Sports Day and showed great sportsmanship. We are very proud of all the children for taking part and giving everything their best try. This week, the children have been developing their writing skills by creating captions, learning how to organise words correctly, and remembering to use capital letters and full stops. In maths, they have been exploring odd and even numbers. After reading the story One Odd Day, the children created their own imaginative odd and even monsters. We have also enjoyed a range of stories about spring and have been busy creating lovely spring crafts. To finish the week—and the Spring term—we went on a wonderful trip to the aquarium. The children had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Nursery have had a super busy week, packed with exciting events and activities. Our Sports Day was a fantastic success! We were so impressed with the children's skills, sportsmanship, and maturity. Everyone participated with great enthusiasm and cheered for their friends, creating a truly supportive atmosphere. A big thank you to all the parents who came to watch and support—you made the day extra special! This week, we also enjoyed the delightful story Muncha, Muncha, Muncha! about three clever little rabbits who couldn’t resist nibbling on a farmer’s vegetables. The children were intrigued and shared their own creative ideas about how the farmer might outsmart the hungry bunnies. Perhaps you can ask them about the story at home and hear some of their wonderful ideas!

This week in Pre-Nursery marked the start of our Spring unit. We enjoyed learning the songs The Ants Go Marching and 5 Little Ducks. Our book of the week was Big Wide-Mouthed Frog, where the frog visits different animals and discovers what they eat. We also had lots of fun during Sports Day, taking part in a variety of events showcasing our balance, speed, and throwing abilities. On Friday, we went on our Sky Sea Aquarium field trip, which was a wonderful experience. Overall, it was a fun and very spring-filled week!
