At Britannica, our school values are at the heart of everything we do. They guide the way we learn, the way we treat one another, and the way we contribute to our school community. In Primary, we believe that values education is just as important as academic learning, as it helps children develop the character, confidence, and understanding they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
Our five school values, Excellence, Integrity, Compassion, Respect, and Responsibility, provide a clear foundation for our expectations and aspirations. They help children understand not only what it means to be a successful learner, but also what it means to be a thoughtful, kind, and active member of a community.
Excellence encourages our students to try their best in all that they do. This does not mean being perfect, but rather approaching learning with effort, curiosity, and determination. We want our children to take pride in their work, challenge themselves, and celebrate progress in all its forms.
Integrity teaches children the importance of honesty and doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. In Primary, this is developed through everyday moments: telling the truth, being fair, keeping promises, and learning from mistakes.
Compassion helps our students understand the feelings and needs of others. We encourage children to show kindness, offer help, and consider how their actions can positively affect those around them. A compassionate school is one where every child feels cared for and supported.
Respect is central to creating a positive learning environment. We teach children to respect themselves, each other, their teachers, their families, and the wider world. This includes listening carefully, valuing differences, and understanding that everyone has something important to contribute.
Responsibility supports children in becoming independent and reliable learners. Whether looking after their belongings, making positive choices, completing tasks, or caring for shared spaces, students learn that their actions matter and that they play an important role in the life of the school.

A strong sense of belonging is also essential to Primary education. When children feel that they belong, they are more confident to participate, take risks in their learning, and build positive relationships. This sense of belonging begins with helping each child feel seen and understood as an individual.
As part of this, all children recently took part in an activity to redesign our school crest to represent themselves. This gave students the opportunity to think about who they are, what is important to them, and how they connect with our school community. Their designs reflected their personalities, cultures, interests, families, and hopes, showing the wonderful diversity within our Primary school.
By linking our school values with personal identity and belonging, we are helping children understand that they are an important part of Britannica. Each child contributes something unique to our community, and together we create a school where excellence, integrity, compassion, respect, and responsibility are lived every day.
