This week’s English assembly explored the connection between Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray and our modern world of social media. Wilde’s novel asks us to question the difference between appearance and reality—an idea that feels especially relevant today. Students considered how carefully constructed online images, misleading information and AI-generated content can make it difficult to know what is real. The assembly encouraged students to question sources, think critically and look beyond appearances. It also showed how great writers such as Wilde continue to offer valuable moral lessons, helping us navigate challenges they could never have imagined.
