Our first class assemblies of the year have provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students’ learning, creativity and confidence. These occasions give children a chance to develop their public-speaking and acting skills while sharing the work they have been doing in school with a wider audience.
Year 2A focused on our school values, exploring compassion and what it means in our everyday interactions. Through poetry, songs and thoughtfully acted scenes, the children demonstrated how we can show kindness, recognise others’ feelings and support one another.
The class also introduced our Britannica Buddy Bench, a practical way to put compassion into action. Children who would like someone to play with but feel too shy to ask can sit on the bench to signal that they would welcome some company. Other students can then invite them to join a game or activity. It is a lovely reminder that a small act of kindness can make a big difference to someone’s day.
Year 5A took us on a Magic School Bus-inspired adventure to Ancient Rome, bringing their classroom learning to life on stage. Through their imaginative journey, the students shared what they had learnt about Roman culture, combining historical knowledge with storytelling and performance.
It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for the topic and the creative way they communicated their understanding to the audience.
I was incredibly impressed by the students in both assemblies. Speaking, singing and acting in front of an audience takes courage, and they approached their performances with enthusiasm, teamwork and confidence. They should all feel proud of what they achieved. I look forward to seeing more of our classes take to the stage and share their learning throughout the year.
