Day two of Wellbeing Week brought a change of pace — quite literally. Tuesday: Move — Physical Wellbeing & Energy was all about getting bodies moving and minds ready for the day, across the whole school.
We chose this theme because the link between physical activity and mental wellbeing is well established: movement lowers stress, lifts mood, and sharpens focus. It's an easy connection to state, but a much more powerful one to actually feel — so today was about giving every student that experience directly.
In Primary
Our younger students spent the morning on Growing Healthy & Strong, taking part in a whole-school yoga session designed to get their bodies moving and their minds settled and ready for the day ahead. For primary-aged children, yoga does double duty: it builds body awareness and coordination, while the slow, deliberate breathing gives them an early, concrete experience of calming themselves down — a skill that connects straight back to Monday's Reset theme. Staff noted how quickly children picked up the poses and how noticeably settled classes were afterwards, carrying that calm energy into their first lessons.
In Secondary
- The Fitness Circuit Challenge: Squats, lunges, press-ups, planks, jumping jacks and wall sits on the front pitch, with points awarded for participation rather than athletic ability. Deliberately levelling the activity this way meant every student, regardless of fitness level, could take part fully and feel a real sense of achievement.
- Walk & Talk: Students paired up for a walk around campus, working through reflective questions together — What are you looking forward to? What's something you're surprisingly good at? Where would you love to travel? Pairing movement with conversation gave students permission to talk more openly than they might sitting face-to-face in a classroom.
What stood out today was participation, across both key stages: even students who don't usually enjoy sport threw themselves into the circuit challenge once the pressure to "perform" was removed, and our youngest students embraced yoga poses with real enthusiasm and focus. That's the real success of the day — proof that inclusive, low-stakes movement can be just as valuable as competitive sport, whatever age you are.
Tomorrow, we shift focus again — from moving our bodies to strengthening our relationships, as we head into Wednesday: Connect.
