This week has been anti-bullying week at Britannica. We kicked off the week with wearing odd socks – there were lots of flashy socks – and we had special assemblies online to talk about what bullying is and what roles we are going to choose to make sure that Britannica is an anti-bullying school. Later in the week we had class assemblies focusing on anti-bullying and being kind and the children made puzzle pieces to show what we are going to do to demonstrate we are united against bullying.

Also this week…

Year 1 have started reading their new class text: The Big Book of Big Machines. Year 1 are looking forward to learning all about the world’s biggest machines over the next few weeks as well as making their own big machine. They will also use their junk modelling to help them write instructions.

In Design and Technology, Year 2 have added the last touches to their lunch boxes and then tested how they would slide on a washing line, just like the pirates! Whilst, in Geography they have been exploring the hot and cold areas around the world and gaining an understanding of the hemispheres.

Year 3 have continued to work on their non-fiction text, Cleopatra. They are really enjoying learning a number of facts about her life and have been able to write paragraphs from key words as well as place the events on a timeline. Throughout this week the children have also looked at times tables in maths and the related division facts. All the teachers have been impressed with the speed of which they can recall some of their times tables.

Year 4 have been busy researching their chosen world leader and have been learning about how to write a biography and what key information needs to be included as well as creating timelines on important events in their leader lives. They have also been learning about time in maths - reading analogue and digital clocks and understanding the 24-hour clock.

Year 5 have edited and finished their stories; taking the reader on an emotional rollercoaster of feelings, thoughts and demonstrating incredible imaginations. Maths has seen the Year 5 students tackle some very tricky place value problems whilst also solving word problems across different topics!

Year 6 have been learning about ways to keep mentally and physically healthy in PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) lessons. They have considered how different life events or circumstances might have an effect on someone and ways that they can cope. Teachers have been very impressed with how maturely the students have discussed and thought about these issues.

To end the week we all gathered on the front playground for a game of tug of war to show that we all recognise the importance of pulling together, regardless of our differences (and our Houses!), to beat bullying!

Wishing you a restful weekend,
