The Winter season has drawn upon us and the weather has become noticeably colder. In EYFS, even in the colder weather we love to continue to experience and explore in our outdoor learning environment.

So that this is possible, please can all parents ensure that their child comes into school with a warm winter coat, hat, scarf, and gloves. Having this appropriate clothing will ensure your child is warm during their outdoor activities.

Do continue to read the exciting learning that has taken place throughout our EYFS this week.

Pre Nursery

We have had a busy week in Pre-Nursery. We have been practicing for our EYFS Winter Concert in the Theatre. We were introduced to the sense of taste, where we tried different foods and we practiced using “I like” or “I don’t like” and sorted the food into what we liked and disliked. We also made our snowflake crowns ready to wear in our Winter concert.

Nursery

This week we have been learning all about Winter in Nursery. The children enjoyed being introduced to the topic and made some very impressive polar bears and used 'cold colours' to make a shape picture. The children developed their understanding of the world whilst learning about different Arctic animals and how they adapt to their surroundings.

Nursery enjoyed using talk boards to record their voices when talking about what they could see whilst exploring our Arctic small world! In Maths the children helped Percy the Penguin to count the correct number of friends and found the corresponding piece of Numicon to match.

Reception

We decided to focus on our senses in Topic this week and in particular, ‘taste’. We first learned our senses song and talked about what each sense is and what we use it for. We then delved deeper into the sense ‘taste’ and learned about the different ways food can taste (sour, sweet, salty, bitter, spicy and sweet). After that, Reception had the chance to do a taste test activity, they tried all of the food, talked about the flavour of each food item and whether or not they liked the taste. We really enjoyed exploring our sense of taste, it was so much fun!

Throughout this week in Phonics, we have learned the letters and sounds ‘l’, ‘f’, ‘ll’ and ‘ff’ and continued practicing reading and writing simple words. We completed multiple craft activities such as; making a bell, a frog and a lollipop. We also read the story the Three Little Pigs, made our own play and worked in groups to sequence the story.

In Maths, we were introduced to 3D shapes; we learned the names, talked about each shape, sang our 3D shape song and played ‘what shape is missing?’ as a class. We then coloured and made our own Christmas present, using the net of a cube and sorted objects into the correct 3D shape.

We have also been practicing really hard, ready for our Winter Concert in a few weeks. What a super busy week!
