This term, a new initiative aimed at fostering stronger connections between home and school has proven to be a resounding success: the Primary Parent Workshop Series. Designed to support parents in their children's educational journeys, these workshops have provided invaluable insights and practical tools across a variety of topics.
The series kicked off with the EYFS and KS1 Phonics workshop, where parents were introduced to the structured phonics approach used in Early Years and Key Stage 1 classrooms. Participants learned about the Letters and Sounds programme, gaining strategies to aid their children’s reading development at home.
The focus shifted to KS2 Supporting Reading at Home. This workshop equipped parents with effective techniques to cultivate their children’s reading habits in Key Stage 2. Attendees explored how to choose appropriate books, discuss reading strategies, and create a nurturing reading environment, all vital for instilling a lifelong love of reading.
The third workshop centered around Primary Maths - White Rose Programme and Home Support. Parents delved into the White Rose Maths programme, which emphasises problem-solving and reasoning. They left with insights into key mathematical concepts and practical activities to reinforce their children’s skills outside the classroom.
The session titled Understanding the Curriculum: What Your Child Learns gave a comprehensive overview of the National Curriculum helped attendees understand key academic milestones and learn how to support their children’s growth throughout the school year.
Finally, the series concluded with Navigating Digital Learning: Tools and Resources for Parents. In an age where technology plays a crucial role in education, this workshop provided parents with essential knowledge about digital learning tools, online safety tips, and strategies for balancing screen time effectively.
The response to the Primary Parent Workshop Series has been overwhelmingly positive, with many parents expressing appreciation for the opportunity to engage more deeply with their children's education. The workshops not only equipped parents with useful strategies but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration among families.
Looking ahead, we will invite parents into school for tailored workshops focusing on specific year groups and topics. These sessions will explore the learning experiences their children will encounter and provide further guidance on how to support their educational journeys at home.
The success of the Primary Parent Workshop Series exemplifies the importance of strong partnerships between home and school. By equipping parents with the knowledge and tools they need, we are collectively creating a supportive and enriching environment for every child to thrive.
