This week, Secondary students took part in Humanities Week, a celebration of the subjects that help us understand people, places, societies, and the wider world. Throughout the week, students participated in a range of activities organised by the Humanities Department, including daily morning challenges, break-time quizzes, and a whole-school scavenger hunt competition.
The daily challenges encouraged students to apply their geographical, historical, and global knowledge in a fun and competitive way, while the break-time quizzes proved popular with students from across all year groups. These activities provided an opportunity for students to test their knowledge, work collaboratively, and engage with topics beyond the classroom.
One of the highlights of the week has been the Humanities Scavenger Hunt. Designed to encourage students to look more closely at the world around them, the challenge asks students to identify examples of different cultures, languages, businesses, landmarks, and features of urban life throughout Shanghai. As an international city with influences from across the globe, Shanghai provides a unique environment for students to develop their understanding of global connections and cultural diversity. The activity encourages students to become more observant, curious, and engaged with the city in which they live, recognising that learning does not stop when they leave the classroom.
The scavenger hunt will continue until Wednesday 24th June, giving students plenty of opportunities to complete challenges and earn points for their class. The winning class will receive a special prize on the final day of school, adding an extra incentive for students to explore their surroundings and engage with the vibrant international city that we are fortunate to call home. Humanities Week has been a fantastic opportunity to celebrate learning beyond the classroom and to encourage students to view the world around them with curiosity and interest.
