This week in Primary, we focused on Mental Health Awareness, reminding ourselves that mental health is just as important as physical health. Children’s emotions, thoughts and wellbeing can change from day to day, and it is okay to have big feelings, what matters most is learning how to notice them, understand them and ask for support when we need it. By talking openly about mental health, building healthy routines and practising kindness, we help everyone feel safe, supported and able to thrive.
As part of our learning, the children took part in a carousel activity exploring the benefits of understanding emotions. Through practical, age-appropriate activities, pupils developed their emotional vocabulary, learnt that different feelings are normal, and discovered strategies for coping when emotions feel overwhelming. This hands-on learning helped children connect their feelings to actions and understand how recognising emotions can support positive relationships.
In PSHE, mental health was a key focus, with lessons encouraging pupils to reflect, communicate and develop coping skills they can use both now and in the future. We also delivered whole-school assemblies to reinforce these messages, promoting empathy, resilience and the importance of looking after wellbeing.
