Year 1 – A Year of Adventure and Discovery
English – Becoming Storytellers
What a journey in English! This year, our children have blossomed into confident storytellers, writers and communicators. They have mastered Phase 3 and 4 phonics, explored nouns, verbs and adjectives, and used Talk for Writing to bring The Gruffalo and The Runaway Iceberg to life. They have created eye-catching posters, written simple instructions (with a little help from a certain bossy pigeon!), crafted rhyming poetry, kept diaries inspired by The Hungry Caterpillar, written letters to pen pals, and composed beautiful colour poetry. Their creativity and enthusiasm have been truly inspiring.
Maths – Building Strong Foundations
Using the White Rose programme, children have become number experts! They have explored place value up to 100, mastered addition and subtraction within 20, and can name 2D and 3D shapes like pros. They have measured length, height, mass and capacity, learned to count in 2s, 5s and 10s, and tackled multiplication, division and fractions (halves and quarters). Our young mathematicians can now tell the time to o'clock and half past, recognise coins and notes, count money, and use positional language including half and quarter turns. Superb work!
Science – Exploring Our World
Get your lab coats on! Children have discovered animal types, the human body, and how plants and trees grow. They have explored rivers and lakes around the world, built their own weather stations, tested and compared materials, and learned how everyday objects are made using hands-on techniques. Curiosity has been off the scale!
Topic – History and Geography
Time travellers and world explorers unite! Children have learned to read maps, use compass directions, and understand the difference between city, country and continent. They have explored the UK's nations and capital cities, climbed hills and mountains, and compared city life to the countryside. They have followed in the footsteps of famous explorers, travelled back to the Great Fire of London (investigating timelines, fire safety and how the city changed), and discovered how toys have evolved through the ages. What an adventure!
Memorable Moments
We have packed so many wonderful experiences into our year! From our Autumn trip to the Wildlife Park to our chilly but brilliant Spring trip to the Ice Park, and finishing with sunshine and smiles at our Summer Legoland Discovery and Picnic with Parents – we have made memories to last a lifetime. Thank you for being part of our journey!

Year 2 – A Year of Learning and Discovery
What a wonderful year we have had! From classic fables to seaside poetry, from counting to 100 to exploring volcanoes, our children have grown as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists and global citizens.
English – Becoming Storytellers
Children studied fables like The Ant and the Grasshopper, wrote instructions and recipes, explored recounts through The Bear and the Piano and The Diary of a Wombat, and created rich descriptions using The Tin Forest and The Whale's Song. They wrote animal reports, explored winter and seaside poetry, and consolidated phonics with Letters and Sounds.
Maths – Building Foundations (White Rose)
We explored place value to 100, addition and subtraction, 2D and 3D shapes, money, multiplication and division, length, height, mass, capacity, temperature, fractions, time to 5 minutes, statistics, and position and direction – through practical activities and problem-solving.
Science – Exploring Our World
Children investigated living things and habitats, went on minibeast hunts, learned about offspring, life cycles, exercise, healthy eating and hygiene. They planted seeds, explored what plants need to grow, tested everyday materials, and studied famous scientists including Louis Pasteur, Rachel Carson and Charles Macintosh.
History & Geography – Understanding Our World
We travelled through time exploring transport, the Vikings, George Stephenson and the Wright Brothers. We studied British monarchs (Henry VIII, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II), castles and the lives of royalty. Geographically, we named the seven continents and five oceans, compared the UK with other countries, explored volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, and discovered seaside features, marine life and conservation.
A Year of Memories
We built minibeast hotels, watched our plants grow, dressed up for our Kings and Queens Medieval Banquet, performed in our end-of-term assembly and slept in the school library!
