Mathematics shapes our daily lives in countless ways. From checking the time to following a recipe, calculating our finances, or even arranging furniture; we use Maths. Maths is everywhere! It is the hidden language that helps us make sense of the world, solve problems, and think creatively.

At Britannica, we firmly believe that mathematics is far more than just numbers on a page. We recognise the immense value that mathematical understanding brings, not only to academic success but to developing critical thinking skills that will serve our students throughout life.

We are deeply committed to exploring, using, and learning the value of mathematics in as many meaningful ways as possible. Whether through hands-on activities, real-world problem solving, or collaborative challenges, we strive to show our students that maths is not just a subject to be studied—it is a skill to be lived.

Maths Week at Britannica

One of the most exciting ways we bring mathematics to life is through our annual Maths Week. Our dedicated celebration of all things numerical! This special week exemplifies our belief that Maths is best learned through real-world applications that spark imagination.

Showcasing Creative Connections

Our daily lessons took on a wonderfully creative twist. Using the famous sequence of Pi (3.14159...), children created stunning bracelets and necklaces, each bead representing a digit in this infinite number. Students also put their measurement skills to practical use, baking cookies decorated with Pi-inspired designs, and our budding artists explored symmetry, patterns, and geometric shapes to produce beautiful artwork.

New Competitions for 2026

This year marked an exciting milestone with the introduction of two brand-new Maths Week competitions.

Internal Maths Olympiad: We launched our first internal Maths Olympiad, where students tackled thought-provoking problems requiring creative thinking and perseverance. The standard of participation was outstanding, and we were thrilled to celebrate our students' mathematical prowess.

Times Table Rock Stars: In keeping with our commitment to collaborative learning, we joined thousands of schools worldwide in the Times Table Rock Stars World Rock competition. Our students battled schools across the globe, racing to answer times table questions with speed and accuracy. The friendly competition also brought incredible energy to our daily Maths practice!

Looking Ahead

The enthusiasm shown by our students during this week has been truly inspiring, and their eagerness to embrace a challenge reminds us daily why we love teaching Maths. We are already looking forward to building on this momentum for next year’s Maths Week. The future of mathematics at Britannica Shanghai is very bright indeed!
