At Britannica, our termly trips are a vital extension of classroom learning, offering a rich range of educational experiences that spark curiosity and deepen understanding. From hands‑on science museums and immersive cultural visits to sustainability tours and outdoor adventures, each trip is carefully chosen to reinforce curriculum goals, develop real‑world skills and foster teamwork, resilience and a love of learning. These experiences give pupils memorable opportunities to observe, question and apply new knowledge in authentic settings, making learning both meaningful and enjoyable.
Year 1 — Ice Park Adventure
This term Year 1 set off for an unforgettable visit to the Ice Park. Rugged up in snow suits, gloves and hats, the children followed in the footsteps of Arctic explorers such as Matthew Henson and Robert Peary and experienced snow and ice for many pupils for the very first time. The day was full of laughter and teamwork as children sledged, slid down icy runs, built snowballs and explored the frosty environment together. The trip brought their classroom learning to life, created lasting memories and helped the year group bond through shared discovery.
Year 2 — NeoBio Museum, Shanghai
Year 2 enjoyed a hands‑on, curriculum-rich day at the NeoBio Museum. Pupils experimented with pulleys and gravity, investigated water flows and whirlpools, felt static electricity, and explored cause-and-effect at the olfactory and electrical stations. They practised real-life maths and communication in the museum’s shopping area, made music on giant piano keys and drums, watched a robot draw portraits and tried neuroscience exhibits that moved cars with concentration. Each activity linked directly to classroom objectives, measurement, forces and simple machines, materials and electricity, and speaking, listening and maths, and the visit encouraged curiosity, teamwork and confident questioning for follow-up work back in school.
Year 3 — Spanish Food and Culture at Macarena Restaurant
Year 3 experienced Spanish culture and cuisine during a trip to Macarena restaurant. The visit started with a screening of the Spanish-language film Coco to introduce traditional customs, then moved on to an authentic Spanish meal featuring paella, croquetas and churros. Pupils enjoyed using their classroom Spanish in a real setting and had the chance to tour the restaurant’s artistically decorated rooms. This cross-curricular outing perfectly supported their European studies and Spanish food unit, combining cultural learning with delicious, hands-on experiences.
Year 4 — Zotter Chocolate Factory: Bean to Bar
Linking to this term’s focus on sustainability, Year 4 visited the Zotter chocolate factory for an insightful ‘bean to bar’ experience. Expert guides led the students through the chocolate-making process while highlighting fair trade and its importance to farmers and global communities. The pupils saw production first-hand and enjoyed sampling a variety of chocolates, a tasty and memorable way to deepen their understanding of sustainability, trade and food production.
Year 5 — Shanghai Astronomy Museum
Year 5 had a brilliant trip to the Shanghai Astronomy Museum. After an enjoyable bus journey the children were calm, respectful and ready to explore. The museum’s inspiring exhibitions brought their space topic to life: interactive displays, awe-inspiring exhibits and hands-on experiences helped reinforce key scientific ideas. Staff were delighted to see pupils captivated, asking thoughtful questions and engaging fully with the interactive elements. The visit provided strong links to classroom learning about Earth and Space and gave many children new scientific insights to carry forward into their studies.
Across the term these trips have enriched our curriculum, supported classroom learning and given pupils the chance to learn through experience.
