This year’s Secondary STEAM Week explored the theme “Adapt and Change”, encouraging students to experiment, think creatively and discover how science connects to the world around us.

One of the highlights was our Anything That Floats challenge, where students worked in their form groups to design and build rafts from recycled plastic bottles that could travel across the pool. With Year 11–13 student helpers collaborating alongside younger students, the challenge brought together creative thinking, problem-solving and teamwork. It was wonderful to see students sharing ideas and adapting their designs.

Throughout the week, students also explored how science connects to everyday life, from growing watercress in decorated eggshells to tackling egg parachute challenges and making their own mayonnaise. These activities encouraged students to observe changes, test predictions and discover the science behind familiar experiences.

Our Year 9–13 Science and Computing students also visited the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, exploring interactive exhibits, scientific discoveries and technological innovations that demonstrate how science continues to shape our future.

Congratulations to our Anything That Floats winners: Year 6A

STEAM Week was a fantastic opportunity for our Secondary students to put their learning into practice, embrace new challenges and collaborate across year groups. It was wonderful to see so much curiosity, creativity and innovation throughout the week!
