This week we celebrated our much-anticipated EYFS Summer Splash, one of our favourite events of the year. The children had a wonderful time enjoying water play, paddling pools, bubbles, music, and games with their friends. Laughter and excitement filled the outdoor area as the children splashed, explored, and cooled off together in the sunshine.
Summer Splash is always such a special event in Early Years, not only because it is lots of fun, but because water play offers so many valuable learning opportunities. Through splashing, pouring, floating, and exploring, the children develop their physical coordination, confidence, and understanding of the world around them. Water play also encourages communication, imagination, teamwork, and problem-solving as children share ideas, cooperate with friends, and explore different ways to play.
Throughout the event, we also focused on the importance of safe and respectful behaviour around water. The children did a fantastic job listening carefully, looking after one another, and showing kindness and cooperation during the activities. It was lovely to see children from across the EYFS interacting together so positively and confidently.
This week, Pre-Nursery children continued learning about farms and the important jobs farmers do. The children enjoyed washing real fruit and vegetables, exploring different textures, colours, and smells through hands-on sensory play. All of Early Years also had a wonderful time during our Summer Splash event, where the children spent the morning enjoying the kiddy pools and water activities together. Our song of the week was “The Animals on the Farm,” and the children also enjoyed listening to the story “Growing Vegetable Soup” by Lois Ehlert.
Nursery had an amazing time during our EYFS Splash Day this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed the paddling pools, bubbles, and water toys, and it was a lovely way to cool down and enjoy the warm weather together. Alongside this, Nursery have been exploring the exciting world of rainforests through stories such as “We’re Roaming in the Rainforest” and “Rumble in the Jungle.” The children have loved learning about the different animals that live in the rainforest and have shown great curiosity and imagination during discussions and play. They have also been exploring animal patterns, looking closely at spots, stripes, and giraffe prints, before creating their own beautiful patterned artwork.
Reception had a fantastic time during our annual Summer Splash at the beginning of the week. The children showed growing confidence in the water and had so much fun splashing, jumping, and playing together. This week, Reception revisited the story “Superworm,” using Tales Toolkit strategies to identify the characters, setting, problem, and solution within the story. The children loved designing their own Superworms and writing captions to explain what their superhero worms could do. They also enjoyed identifying rhyming words within the story and joining in with the repetitive language. In maths, the children have been practising adding and taking away, using mathematical language to explain their thinking, including discussing “how many did I add?” and “how many did I take away?
