Understanding How Children Learn Mathematics in Primary

Recently, our Primary parents took part in a series of Maths workshops designed to support their understanding of how children learn Mathematics in school. 

These workshops are an invaluable opportunity for parents to explore common misconceptions in Maths, ask questions, and gain a clearer understanding of the teaching methods used in the classroom.

During the sessions, parents were able to interact with a range of practical strategies and resources that teachers use to support children’s mathematical development. This hands-on approach helped demonstrate how concepts are introduced, developed, and deepened over time, enabling parents to better support their children’s learning at home.

A key focus of the workshops was our use of the White Rose Maths programme. White Rose provides a carefully sequenced approach to Maths learning, helping children build strong foundations, develop fluency, reason mathematically, and solve problems with confidence. By using consistent methods and language across the school, children are supported to make meaningful progress in their mathematical understanding.

We are proud that our school is recognised as a White Rose Champion School. This recognition celebrates our outstanding student progress, our strong approach to Mathematics teaching, and our commitment to working closely with parents to support every child’s growth.
