The Autumn term at Britannica has been a rich and rewarding period for our EYFS children, filled with purposeful learning, exploration and celebration. Over the course of the term, the children settled confidently into their routines, built positive relationships and developed a strong sense of belonging within the school environment.

Learning throughout the term was enhanced through a range of hands-on experiences that supported curiosity and understanding. One of the highlights was the visit to the mushroom farm, where the children explored the natural environment and learned about how mushrooms grow. This experience encouraged observation, discussion and a deeper awareness of the world around them.

Seasonal events such as Pumpkin Palooza played an important role in bringing everyone together. Autumn provided opportunities for creative expression, investigation and sensory play, allowing the children to engage with autumn themes in an enjoyable and meaningful way. As the term progressed, learning naturally shifted towards winter, with children developing an understanding of seasonal change through stories, discussion and play.

Our Winter Wonderland and Winter Concert celebrations offered shared experiences for the children, where they confidently participated in songs and performances. This was followed by the EYFS Christmas Gathering, where the children shared their learning with families.

As the term drew to a close, winter concepts continued to be explored through stories, creative activities and structured play. These experiences supported language development, social interaction and children’s understanding of the wider world.

During the final week of the Autumn term, Pre-Nursery focused on revisiting and practising key concepts, including colours, shapes and numbers 1–5. Outdoor learning remained a key feature, with the children exploring the environment as they searched for sticks, flowers, bugs and even seasonal surprises such as Santa. Our story of the week, Pip and Posy: The Christmas Tree, supported discussion around sharing and cooperation and linked closely to our Christmas party, where the children decorated their own biscuits to share with their families. It was a pleasure to see the children working together, creating, singing and playing as the term came to an end.

In Nursery, festive learning continued through a range of crafts, stories and songs that reflected the season. The children created decorations and took part in singing activities, supporting creativity and communication skills. The story One Snowy Night was particularly engaging, prompting discussion about forest animals seeking warmth and shelter, and encouraging imaginative play and thoughtful conversations.

Reception children also enjoyed a full week of festive learning. They participated in Christmas craft activities and used their phonics knowledge to write letters to Santa. Winter-themed stories, including Mog’s Christmas and Let It Snow, supported literacy development and seasonal understanding. Sharing these festive moments with families and friends at the end of term was especially meaningful, and we thank you for joining us.

We are extremely proud of the progress the children have made throughout the Autumn term, both academically and socially. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to welcoming the children back and beginning the new term together.
