What a joyful and soothing week we have had in Early Years as we celebrated Wellbeing Week across the school! With a strong focus on Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED), our Early Years learners spent the week exploring what it means to look after their minds, bodies, and one another.

A big part of our week was dedicated to emotional literacy by helping the children identify, name, and express their emotions in healthy ways. We talked about how different feelings look and feel inside our bodies, reassuring everyone that all feelings are okay to experience. To help navigate those moments when emotions feel overwhelming, the children practiced simple breathing techniques and calming yoga poses. Alongside learning how to soothe our own big feelings, we focused on being good friends by practicing kindness, sharing, and offering a helping hand to our classmates.

We also embraced the importance of self-care and keeping our bodies healthy through fun, interactive play. The children learned about the power of physical movement, the importance of getting a good night's sleep, and how to build strong daily hygiene habits like washing our hands properly and brushing our teeth twice a day. These lessons were brought to life through two extra-special whole-school outdoor events: a morning yoga session under the open sky, and a shared breakfast that brought our entire school community together.

To round off our reflections on gratitude, each child shared or drew something that brings them pure joy which was put onto a leaf and hung on a tree in the main reception to create a collective display of shared happiness. You can keep this momentum going at home by asking your child to demonstrate their new calming breathing techniques when they feel overwhelmed, or by sharing one thing that made you both smile at the end of the day.
