Halfway through Wellbeing Week, and today's theme reminded us of something simple but powerful: wellbeing rarely happens alone. Wednesday: Connect — Friendships & Belonging was about deliberately strengthening the relationships that hold our school community together, and it was a day the whole school shared.

We chose this theme because a strong sense of belonging is one of the biggest protective factors for young people's mental health — and belonging isn't something that just happens. It has to be built, through shared time and shared experience.

In Primary

Our younger students' day was built around Connecting with Others, with a real focus on making new friends outside their usual class group. Break time was spent reading together across year groups — an idea that works because it removes the pressure of structured play and simply gives children permission to sit down and share a book with someone they might not normally spend time with. Teachers saw children who don't often mix choosing to sit together, and several new friendships forming in a single session — a lovely, low-key demonstration of how easily belonging can grow when we simply create the space for it.

In Secondary

  • Whole School Breakfast: Students and staff from every year group shared a table, a meal, and a moment together before the day began. It's one of the simplest ideas in the whole week, and one of the most effective — proof that shared food and shared time can do more for belonging than almost any planned activity.

And across the entire school, from our youngest to our oldest, everyone took part in Wear Something Green Day — a small, visible, all-day sign that we were all part of the same community, taking part in the same week together.

The success worth celebrating today was the number of new, cross-year-group conversations and friendships we saw happening — at primary reading time, at the whole school breakfast, over books, in the corridors. Students who might not normally sit together did today, and that's exactly the kind of connection this day was designed to spark.

Our Tree Installation in the foyer is now filling with leaves from across the school — a growing, visual record of what genuinely makes our community happy.

Two days remain. Tomorrow we look forward, as Thursday: Thrive turns our attention to purpose, goals, and the future.
