This week the children in EYFS continued enjoying learning through their class topics. Today we had lots of fun whilst making a healthy smoothie to enjoy with our friends. Whilst completing this activity, led by our school chef Rex, we considered what foods are good for us and which foods we should only eat a little of.

PreNursery

Pre-Nursery have been focusing on the vocabulary ,‘pat, bake, roll, cake, oven and fast’, whilst learning ‘Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake.’ They have enjoyed lots of interactive activities involving the rhyme, including making play doh cakes, developing their fine motor skills through sprinkling and decorating pretend cakes, and had lots of fun making pretend recipes to bake a cake. Whilst learning, ‘I’m a little teapot’ Pre-Nursery have had fun learning about tea, tasting a variety of different fruit flavoured teas, and we developed our hand-eye coordination as we learnt how to pour using a large teapot. Along with this, we focused on the key vocabulary from the rhyme, ‘teapot, short, handle, stout, tip and pour.’

Nursery

This week in Nursery we read the story of, 'The Ugly Duckling.' We used the story to support children in understanding and appreciating the similarities and differences between each other. We made puppets of the characters and created our own ‘kind’ version of the story. We also had lots of fun finding words that begin with the letter 'd.'

In Topic the children developed their understanding of the lifecycle of a duck and created their own animal repeating patterns in Maths. It was a very busy week!

Reception

This week in Phonics the children have been practicing blending all the sounds they have learnt so far to make words and have started reading. They also practiced how to write simple words with the letter sounds they have learnt so far. We hope the children are enjoying practicing reading the words and simple story books that were sent home last week. We explored rhyming and they participated in several rhyming activities, creating their own silly rhymes!

In Maths we introduced the children to the concept of subtraction. We played many sensorial games with cubes, playdough and leaves in order to visually show how to subtract. The children were encouraged to write their own number sentences and find the answers by themselves using visual aids when needed.

We continued our topic about Dinosaurs this week and talked about dinosaur environments. We looked at different environments such as forests and volcanic terrains, and held a group discussion about it. The children have started painting their own Dinosaur Environment Boxes, which will be an ongoing project!
