This year in June, our students from Britannica visited our sister Orbital Education schools, Baleares International School, and learnt to sail in Mallorca, Spain. Each day we awoke to sunny, blue skies and ventured out into the water to learn to sail. The students learnt how to assemble the different parts of the boat and tack and gybe (turn the boat) being careful not to be hit in the head by the boom! As well as sailing, we were treated to a day’s kayaking, where we were able to paddle into a cave on the coast. We also went 8 person paddle boarding on an XXL board. Most of the students were able to stand and balance on the board whilst paddling with only a few students making it into the water!

When we were not enjoying ourselves on the water we were experiencing all the amazing cultural activities Mallorca has to offer. We ate incredible Spanish food every day, visited the spectacular Palma Cathedral, explored the vibrant streets of Valdemossa, listened to classical music in the echoing Caves of Drach and raced down waterslides in Western Water Park. However, a personal highlight was visiting and making new friends at our two sister schools. From sharing our different cultures and languages through an assembly to eating a Spanish lunch prepared by their Year 6’s, it was unforgettable experience for everyone!

Once again we had the most amazing time in Mallorca and we look forward to more sea adventures next year!
