It has been a wonderful week in Early Years celebrating Chinese New Year. The children have been very enthusiastic whilst joining in with activities and sharing their own knowledge about the special time of year. It was fantastic to see all of the children in their traditional dress today.

Pre-Nursery

This week Pre-Nursery continued their Nursery Rhyme journey with two new rhymes that are based around food and drink: ‘Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake’ and ‘I’m a Little Teapot’.

Whilst learning ‘Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake’ Pre-Nursery made play dough cakes, developing their fine motor skills through sprinkling, and decorating pretend cakes. While learning ‘I’m a little teapot’ they had fun learning about tea and tasted a variety of different fruit flavored teas and developed their hand-eye coordination as they learnt how to pour using a large teapot.

Nursery

It has been a very busy week in Nursery. The children have been engaged in many different art projects all based on the stories we have read and the children’s interests. Nursery read the story of ‘Can’t you sleep little bear?’ and this led to a discussion on night time and what we can see. Which then led the children to draw and paint the night sky.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Nursery baked heart shaped cookies which was they then enjoyed eating with their friends. Everyone worked hard making the cookies, by counting and measuring the ingredients and then rolling them into shape.

Reception

We have had another wonderful week in Reception celebrating Chinese culture! The children got to be part of the audience for a Key Stage 1 performance and enjoyed coming into school today with their beautiful Chinese costumes and tried out some traditional foods and played some games.

This week we learnt all about the diagraphs, ‘ff’ ‘ll’, ‘ss’ and the letter ‘j’. We practiced blending, reading and writing words and sentences, including tricky words. In Maths, we introduced the children to subtraction and enjoyed the outdoors while getting involved in several activities to support our learning.
