This week we held our exciting EYFS Summer Splash event, which takes place twice a year. This event immerses our children in water activities, emphasising the importance of water safety, enjoyment, and appropriate behaviour.
Water play is not just about having fun; it is vital for a child’s development. Being in the water allows children to explore their senses and enhances their physical coordination. The sensation of splashing, floating, and moving in water encourages creativity and imagination, making playtime both enjoyable and educational.
During the event, children engaged in various activities that highlighted the joy of being in water. They laughed, played games, and experienced the thrill of splashing around with friends. This kind of play fosters social skills as children learn to cooperate, share, and communicate with one another. The excitement of water play boosts their confidence and helps build resilience as they navigate new experiences.
We emphasised the importance of having fun safely, guiding the children in how to behave in the water while enjoying themselves. The supportive environment created by our staff ensured everyone felt comfortable and secure, allowing for a carefree experience.
The EYFS Summer Splash was a resounding success, providing children with valuable lessons on water safety while creating lasting memories. We believe that these experiences are crucial for fostering a love of water and ensuring that our children grow up to be happy, confident swimmers.

This week in Reception was filled with excitement, starting with our field trip to the Sports Park on Monday. After the rain, we went on a snail hunt, sparking many questions about the differences between snails and slugs, including “Why are snails so slimy?” We also had a fun science experiment where we made our own slime, mixing and measuring to find the perfect consistency. The children enjoyed the Summer Splash, participating in water games, bubbles, and splashing together. It was heartwarming to see both classes working together and caring for each other, and we wrapped up the week with a cozy movie and popcorn party, creating lasting memories.

This week, we enjoyed the story "Handa's Hen," joining Handa on her adventure to find her missing hen, Mondi. The children loved the surprises Handa encountered along the way, meeting unusual creatures, and felt relief when the missing hen was finally found. In our music and reading sessions, we sang and read "Creepy Crawly Calypso," where the children had a fantastic time dancing and singing along with the minibeasts while playing their instruments. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for rhythm and rhyme! Meanwhile, Nursery has been busy sorting minibeasts into different categories and discovering their various habitats. It was delightful to watch them learn about where different creatures like to live and how they find shelter and food.
Pre-Nursery has had a fantastic week focused on porridge and oats. The children enjoyed stories such as “The Magic Porridge Pot” and “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” They engaged in lots of sensory play, exploring dry oats, mixing oats with water, and even painting with oats and paint. One of the highlights was making their own porridge and tasting it—delicious! Additionally, Pre-Nursery had a fun trip to the park on Monday, where they played on the equipment and enjoyed a picnic. The week was capped off with a splashing time at our Summer Splash event.
