This week, students across the Secondary School reflected on important global themes. In assembly, Mr Davis led a thoughtful session on Remembrance Day and reconciliation, encouraging students to consider the importance of remembering the past while building a more peaceful and understanding future. Students took away some lessons in forgiveness and the importance of understanding others when dealing with conflict.
The Year 10 IGCSE Global Perspectives class also shared their learning with the school community through an engaging presentation on raising awareness of the importance of reducing food waste. Students explored the environmental impacts of food waste, including the resources used in food production and the greenhouse gases released when food ends up in landfill. The presentation encouraged everyone to think about how small changes—such as planning meals carefully, composting leftovers, and choosing sustainably sourced foods—can help reduce waste and promote more sustainable eating habits. We hope that their message made an impact on their peers to make more sustainable choices at meal times and to build for a greener future.
Looking ahead, after the holiday, the Humanities Department is excited to take Years 7–10 on a trip to Beijing to explore the cultural and historical wonders of China’s capital. Students will have the opportunity to walk on the Great Wall of China, explore the Temple of Heaven, visit the magnificent Forbidden City, and take part in a traditional Tai Chi lesson in one of Beijing’s beautiful parks. The trip will give students a unique chance to experience China’s rich history and culture firsthand, deepening their understanding of the world beyond the classroom.
