Our Student Council has been working hard this term to ensure that children’s voices help shape school life. Alongside sharing feedback, council members have supported the selection and purchase of brand-new toys for our outdoor play area.
Choosing the toys was a valuable exercise in collaboration. The children had to look beyond their own favourites and consider what would appeal to a range of ages and interests. They listened to one another, discussed ideas and worked together to choose toys that everyone could enjoy. They also met with Mr Farrell, to explain their plans and discuss their choices.
The new toys have now been unveiled during assemblies and will be ready for children to enjoy after the November break. We will also be reintroducing our playground toy monitors, who will help children use the resources responsibly, encourage sharing and support tidying away.
This project highlights the importance of student voice and leadership. When children have meaningful opportunities to contribute, they learn that their ideas matter and that leadership involves listening, considering others and taking responsibility. We are proud of our Student Council’s thoughtful approach and look forward to seeing their choices bring fresh opportunities for fun and friendship to the playground.
