Jon was born and raised near Durban, South Africa. After finishing school, he studied at the University of Cape Town, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 2012, in the Social Sciences with a focus in English, Psychology and Sociology. Following graduation, Jon continued to live and work in Cape Town until moving to Shanghai, China in early 2018.

During his time teaching in China, Jon trained as an EAL (English as an Additional Language) teacher. He has also worked in other areas of education, ranging from teaching ESL to training new foreign teachers arriving in China to delivering a rigorous literature and writing curriculum.

Throughout his career, Jon has had the privilege of working and collaborating with a diverse group of students and teachers from various backgrounds and cultures. Jon is currently in his fourth year at Britannica and enjoying being a part of the close-knit community.
