The festive season has filled our EYFS community with joy, creativity, and togetherness. Over the past few weeks, the children have taken part in magical celebrations that reflect their growing confidence, imagination, and sense of belonging. These experiences continue to support key areas of the EYFS curriculum, including communication and language, expressive arts and design, and personal, social, and emotional development.

Our Winter Concert was truly heart-warming. The children shone brightly as they performed songs, rhymes, and dances they had been practising with such enthusiasm. It was a delight to see their faces light up with pride as they shared their learning with families and friends. From gentle winter melodies to lively festive favourites, each performance highlighted the children’s developing communication skills and their confidence in expressing themselves through music, movement, and storytelling. Moments like these remind us of the importance of providing opportunities for children to explore the arts in joyful and meaningful ways.

Throughout December, the children have also been fully immersed in the magic of Christmas. They have decorated our classrooms with handmade crafts, explored seasonal sensory activities, and taken part in festive role play that sparked wonderful conversations and imaginative thinking. Christmas stories, Christmas singing, and collaborative activities have helped the children understand traditions, practise sharing and turn-taking, and deepen their awareness of the world around them. These experiences nurture their social and emotional growth while strengthening our sense of community.

This week in Pre-Nursery, we had a wonderful time preparing for and performing our Christmas Bells song in the theatre for our families. The children thoroughly enjoyed our main books of the week, Maisy’s Christmas Tree and Maisy’s Christmas Eve, both of which celebrate teamwork and helping one another during the holiday season. We also learned the colours gold and silver, which inspired our beautifully painted recycled Christmas baubles. It has been a festive week filled with joy, creativity, and meaningful connections.

In Nursery, the children brought festive cheer to the stage with their delightful performance of “I’m a Little Snowman.” They shone with confidence, and we could not be prouder of how bravely and joyfully they shared their work. In the classroom, they have been busy exploring a range of Christmas-themed crafts, expressing their ideas through colour, sparkle, and imaginative design. Our story of the week, Mog’s Christmas, prompted lovely conversations about how busy and sometimes confusing the season can be, especially through the eyes of a curious cat.

Reception also enjoyed an exciting week of celebrations. They began by performing their Winter Concert piece, the song S A N T A, with tremendous energy and pride. Performing on stage plays an important role in helping children build confidence, communication skills, and self-belief, and the Reception children demonstrated all these so beautifully. In literacy, they continued exploring the story Stickman, creating their own Stickman characters and retelling the story in their own words. They have also been enthusiastically engaging in festive arts and crafts, making winter scenes, gingerbread figures, and decorative Christmas tree ornaments. In maths, Reception have been revising what makes 5, using hands-on activities and practical resources to deepen their understanding of early number composition.

We are now eagerly preparing for our upcoming Christmas Gathering, where families will once again come together to celebrate the joy of the season. This special event will give the children another opportunity to share their creativity, interact with loved ones, and make lasting memories. We look forward to welcoming you for a morning filled with laughter, connection, and festive cheer, and to reflecting on all the learning and growth we have shared so far as we look ahead to the months to come.
