Global Wellbeing Week. Day 2

As we continue with Global Wellbeing Week 2025-2026 at Britannica International School, Shanghai, today’s focus is on the Importance of Self-Care. This initiative aims to promote mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing among our students within the Orbital Education community. Each day this week has a unique theme, with summaries released to highlight our activities.

Importance of Self-Care for Children

Self-care is essential for children of all ages, as it fosters resilience, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing. Teaching students the importance of self-care equips them with strategies to manage stress and navigate daily challenges. By prioritising self-care today, we encourage our students to develop healthy habits that will serve them throughout their lives.

Today's Activities

Today’s activities focused on self-care and mindfulness, providing students with tools to nurture their mental health.

  • EYFS: Students participated in Mindful Movement and Breathing, enjoying a guided yoga session that introduced simple breathing techniques tailored for young children. The outcome was the creation of a "Mindfulness Booklet” that they could take home, showcasing five calming techniques they learned.
  • Primary: Students engaged in two activities:
    • Mindfulness Art Therapy - Mandala Art: Each student created their own Mandala Art, promoting mindfulness and self-reflection while listening to a calming soundtrack. The result is a collaborative Mandala Gallery displayed throughout the school.
    • Senses Countdown: This activity encouraged students to connect with their surroundings using their five senses and perform a body check. The outcome was increased relaxation and awareness of their sensory experiences.
  • Secondary: The day featured a Mindfulness Workshop with several engaging activities:
    • Morning Mindfulness Workshop: Teachers guided students through various relaxation techniques, including meditation, helping them to learn mindfulness practices they can implement in their daily lives.
    • Self-Care Library Display: Students explored books about mental health and discussed their insights in pairs or groups. This display aims to support self-care and mental health while encouraging open discussions among students.
    • Mindfulness Art Therapy - Mandala Art: Similar to the Primary activities, students created personal Mandala Art, contributing to the schoolwide Mandala Gallery.

As we embrace the importance of self-care today, we encourage all students to reflect on their own self-care practices. Stay tuned for tomorrow's article as we continue exploring new themes throughout Global Wellbeing Week!
