Global Wellbeing Week. Day 1
Britannica International School, Shanghai is excited to kick off Global Wellbeing Week 2025-2026 with a focus on the Importance of Sleep. This initiative aims to enhance the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of our students within the Orbital Education community. Each day this week will have a different focus, and a summary article will be released throughout the week.
Importance of Sleep for Children
Sleep is crucial for children of all ages, playing a vital role in their overall development and academic performance. Adequate sleep enhances cognitive functions, supports emotional regulation, and boosts memory and learning capabilities. Research shows that well-rested children tend to perform better academically, exhibit improved concentration, and demonstrate better behaviour in school settings. By prioritising sleep awareness today, we aim to empower our students with the knowledge and habits necessary for healthier sleep patterns.
Today's Activities
To kick off the week, today was Pyjama Day, inviting all students to participate in a fun and cozy theme that set an exciting tone for the activities ahead.
- EYFS: Students enjoyed Storytime and Emotional Exploration with a reading of "The Colour Monster," followed by creating a "Feelings Wall" to express and illustrate various emotions, enhancing their emotional literacy.
- Primary: In the Wellbeing Workshop: My Emotional Toolbox, students engaged in a Pillow Craft activity, decorating pillowcases with messages about the benefits of sleep. These will be displayed in a striking installation shaped like a bed, serving as a collective reminder of the importance of sleep.
- Secondary: A Pyjama Party during registration generated excitement. This was followed by an assembly led by the student leadership team, introducing Global Wellbeing Week and discussing the critical role of sleep.
As we embark on this week-long journey, we encourage all students to engage with the activities designed to promote understanding and appreciation of sleep's importance. Stay tuned for daily summaries as we explore various themes throughout Global Wellbeing Week!
