The excitement was palpable as students returned to Primary for a new academic year. On Monday, after our welcome activities and a whole primary assembly, students eagerly explored the new changes around the school. One of the highlights was the opportunity to venture into the new STEAM rooms, where they even coded some of our new robots to draw pictures, merging creativity with technology.
Year 1
What a brilliant and busy first week we have had in Year 1. Our week began with community-building activities, including 'Show and Tell,' which provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to share their unique interests and talents with their new classmates. In ICT, the children embraced their roles as 'mini-photographers,' developing their foundational digital skills, and in Science, we launched our first topic by learning about different animal groups and seeing which ones we could see around the school.
Year 2
Our Year 2 community has welcomed a delightful group of children who have transitioned beautifully into their new class. This week has been filled with joy and excitement as students have demonstrated remarkable resilience, organisation, and responsibility. To foster connections, we focused on getting to know each other through engaging PSHE activities, which encouraged students to share their thoughts and ideas. In English, our phonics activities brought laughter and learning to the classroom as the children began their journey to hone their reading and writing skills. We made a fantastic start in maths, diving into place value, addition, and subtraction, with students tackling these concepts with inspiring enthusiasm.
Year 3
The Year 3 students kicked off the year with enthusiasm, quickly acclimating to their new routines and surroundings. Through a range of engaging games and activities, they began to forge connections with one another. A particularly meaningful task involved each student filling an 'About Me' bag with five carefully chosen objects that represent significant aspects of their lives. This activity allowed students to express their individuality and share personal stories with classmates and teachers alike.
Year 4
The Year 4 students arrived buzzing with excitement! The first day included a variety of fun activities aimed at fostering connections among the children. A welcome presentation set the tone for the year, complemented by online interactive games such as archery multiplication and "Would You Rather," which encouraged collaboration and laughter. The week also involved baseline assessments and creative tasks, including a hot air balloon writing project that allowed students to express themselves freely.
Year 5
Year 5 students have settled beautifully into their class routines, quickly grasping expectations and enjoying their time. The week was filled with various assessments and ‘Get to Know’ activities, including detailed kennings poems about themselves, complemented by artistic illustrations. The students also created portraits that are now displayed in classrooms and corridors. Their enthusiasm for the reading reward scheme has been inspiring, as they eagerly read each night to earn holes in their reading flags. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and positive attitudes and are excited for an engaging term ahead.
As the first week comes to a close, it was clear that the students were ready to embark on a fantastic journey of learning, friendship, and growth. The excitement for the year ahead is just beginning!
